Tips Cleaning Carpet Stained Ball Point Pen Ink

A lot of things can cause a stain to your lovely carpet. The two most common are food and beverages. But sometimes, your pen can also the same amount of damage so here are some tips to clean a carpet that has been stained with ballpoint pen ink.

The first thing you have to do is pick up the pen and put in a safe place. You should lift this gently from the ground because you could press the ink further into the carpet or even cause it to spread.

Instead, you should get a sponge, put rubbing alcohol then blot this over the stained area. If this does not and there is still stain present, this is the time that you need to apply dry cleaning fluid or a spray spot remover. Ideally, this should contain a grease solvent like petroleum naphtha or tichlorethylene.

If you are still not satisfied with the results, you should buy glycerin that is found in the drug store. This should be placed on a sponge or a towel and as much as possible keep it moist.

At the same time, someone should get a wet spotter by mixing one part glycerin with also one part liquid dish washing detergent and a little water. When it is ready, you should then blot this on the stain then slowly add a few drops of ammonia.

When the stain is gone, the last thing you have to do is rinse this with cold water so there is no residue left behind on the carpet. You should blot any excess moisture then turn on the fan or use a blower to make sure everything has dried up.

The supplies needed to remove an ink stain are not that hard to find. This can either be purchased in the drug store or the grocery. Since this could happen again, it is best to have these stored in the house or in the office.

A few things you should know about the supplies you purchase is that when you are using paper towels, make sure that it is made of highly absorbent material and color white. Colored runs could run and instead of dealing with just one problem, make you have to deal with another.

You must also never use harsh chemicals when you feel like giving up. If your attempts have failed, call on a professional as they have experienced in these matters that will surely make the stain go away.

One thing you must never do with an ink stain is soak the fabric in hot water. This does more harm than good and it may make this problem permanent. It is safe though to use cold water then blot using a paper towel or a sponge, which is another method often used by those that have encountered this problem.

Cleaning a carpet that has been stained with ballpoint pen ink will be a bit challenging given that it uses a synthetic colorant with an alcohol solvent in thick paste. Although getting rid of it is difficult but not impossible, you can do something about it just make sure immediate action is taken before the ink dries because when this happens, it is already too late.
